Demolition to begin at explosion site
Demolition work is set to get underway at a Nottingham house which was damaged in a gas explosion.
Investigators have as yet been unable to enter the building to establish the cause of the blast, as police have declared it too dangerous to enter.
However, police are intending to work alongside demolition experts to gather further evidence as the work progresses over a two week period.
The council house on Stockhill Lane, Basford was severely damaged, losing much of its back wall and first floor.
The explosion – which occurred on June 20th – was so powerful that tenants Sandra Shaw and her partner Alex Kirk both lost limbs.
Eyewitness Ken Hamilton was near the street at the time of the explosion, which led to several houses being evacuated.
"It was like a bomb going off, it was that loud," he said
Nottingham City Homes, which manages about 29,000 properties in the city, said renovation work had been taking place in the house.
The group confirmed that a new boiler was installed in the house about six weeks ago and had since been inspected.
