Final preparations made for Somerset nightclub demolition
Demolition contractors in Somerset are undertaking the final preparations to demolish the shell of a well-known former nightclub in Weston-super-Mare.
The former Sands nightclub, on Beach Road, has been in the sights of demolition contractors for several months, and they are now set to begin work on Thursday, October 27. Local developers are keen to clear the prime site to make way for a more lucrative leisure development.
McLaren Life, the company which is leading the £30 million Dolphin Square regeneration project, have said they are looking at a number of options for the long-term future of the location. They hope to be able to submit formal plans to the local authority early in 2012.
Director of McLaren Life, Simon Berry, said that there were a number of possible uses on the table and he was confident that the demolition would put some good pace behind the progress.
"The site itself is an important part of the overall regeneration of Dolphin Square and will be a further enhancement to Weston’s seafront once it is completed," he said.
The Dolphin Square development - which is expected to be completed in 2013 - has already attracted some big-name prospective tenants, including Vue Cinemas, Harvester and Prezzo.
