Hull eyesore home to finally be demolished
The owner of a decaying, fire-ravaged house in Hull has said he is delighted that demolition contractors are about to begin work on clearing the site.
Simon Taylor lived at 289 Anlaby Road, Hull, until he and his family abandoned the property more than a decade ago after suffering 15 burglaries in less than the years, one of which even resulted in their front door being stolen. The house has fallen further and further into disrepair, but the details of the demolition plan and negotiations with Hull Council - which owns number 291, the property next door - have helped take action against it.
Hull Council has confirmed this week, however, that all details have been finalised, and they are to start preparing both 289 and 291 for demolition this week.
Mr Taylor said he was extremely happy that everything had been ironed out with the four-storey property and was looking to moving on with the site.
"I'm delighted the site we've had all these years is being demolished because you are liable for everything that goes in the garden," he said. "The house was destroyed by arson over 11 years ago and in that time there has been constant problems with needles, fly-tipping, break-ins and general misbehaviour which has also significantly affected the neighbours."
Demolition had been planned to begin in December 2010 but had to be put back due to budgetary constraints.
