Molineux stands to be demolished
Wolverhampton’s Molineux Stadium is to be regenerated as part of a £40 million three-year redevelopment plan. Details were unveiled on Friday morning including revelations that the scheme will see at least two of the stadium’s stands – the Stan Cullis (north) and Steve Bull (east) – be completely demolished. One further stand – the Billy Wright – could also be taken down and replaced although it was previously redeveloped in 1993.
If all plans are approved the entire regeneration project is intended to increase the Molineux’s capacity to 50,000. The first phase of the development will begin at the end of the 2010/11 season, leaving the current capacity significantly reduced while building work is underway.
The Molineux Stadium is a premier league football stadium which has been the home ground of the Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club (Wolves) since 1889. It was previously renovated in the early 1990s when it became one of the most modern stadia in the country.
Wolves are currently assuring their fans that ticket arrangements are being made to accommodate the demolition and building work. The regenerated stadium is intended to be ready for the start of the 2014/15 season.
