Molins sports pavilion to be demolished
It has been announced that a sports pavilion at Mill Lane, Monks Risborough, will be demolished after a fire ravaged the building last week. The site will also see surrounding sheds at the grounds be brought down under controlled demolition.
Last week it took five fire crews and twenty fire-fighters to put out the fire that is suspected to have been started deliberately. Local police are treating the case as suspected arson. The pavilion's wooden extension was completed ruined as a result of the fire. Twenty percent of the roof of a derelict building at the grounds was also damaged.
Several planning applications have been received by south Buckinghamshire district councils for the site. Planners are proposing a number of options for the site, including demolishing the existing storage sheds to be replaced by a side extension to be used for storage.
Molins Sports Ground has been in existence since the 1950s. It was initially built to offer staff working at the Molins factory in nearby Saunderton somewhere to exercise. The site is within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and designated Green Belt.
