Withywood problem pub demolished

A pub in the Withywood district of Bristol has been demolished after years of causing problems for the local community.

The Woods Pub first started to be a problem after it became badly damaged which meant nearby residents were subjected to high levels of noise coming from the property. The local authorities also received numerous complaints from locals who had reported feeling intimidated by the pub's patrons.

The first steps to alleviate the problem came when the local police and partners managed to remove the pub's licence. This left the Woods vacant and boarded up, though the problems persisted with reports of people breaking into the property and vandalising it. There were also complaints from local residents that the pub was being used as a venue for drug taking.

Final resolve came when the Wythywood Beat Team, part of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, together with supporting partners succeeded in their campaign to have the building demolished by demolition contractors. "It has taken a lot of time and hard work to finally see a permanent resolution to the problems of the Woods Pub. However, the residents can now see the results and feel safer in their community," said PC Eve Lauder.
